Competition (Somewhat Competitive)

Whitman both in his poetry and life, sought to wholeheartedly experience the world around him. He immersed himself in the New York art scene, attended operas, supported wounded soldiers in Washington hospitals, and connected deeply to nature in his life's journey. The Walt Whitman Birthplace Museum (WWBA) hosts an annual student poetry contest that is open to students in grades 3-12, inviting them to write original poems that explore the theme, often drawing inspiration from Whitman's own free verse style.
